I lived at the shore for three years. Im not afraid of a little hurricane. And Im fully prepared for a big one. Settle down, PA. Unless you live in an area prone to flooding, the worst that can happen is your power goes out.

However, Im thankful to have off school Monday and Tuesday. Go ahead and overreact all you want, city of Philadelphia!

Hahaha I totally get you! People are flipping out in my area, stocking up on batteries, deli meat, and frozen dinners (they're not very bright) and acting like we'll never see the light of day again. We'll prolly be hit by a shit ton of rain and power outages but jeesh.

I guess it's good that people are taking weather warnings seriously... I just don't think people are thinking through what they're swarming the stores for! If the storm hits anything like it's predicted to, EVERYBODY is going to lose power. That means no refrigeration. So why are all the stores rationing the milk???

Living on the coast hurricane season was just a fact of life. Every house on the island had a first floor several feet off the ground, maybe four or five, because the island could flood. During major weather events, the bridges were routinely made to be one way, so you could LEAVE the island but you couldn't ENTER the island. In the three years that I lived there, there was never a weather evacuation (although there were many "remain indoors" warnings) , but last year during Irene there was, including several counties on the mainland. It was a big deal. And I SWEAR nobody went to the supermarket and bought all the milk! I wasn't there, but I guarantee that did not happen!

it's all amusing really, schools and small businesses have shut down today and tomorrow. I guess it depends on where you live in location to the path of the hurricane, but I'm not too worried.
