Might As Well - That Intro Post (12/2/09)
Dec. 2nd, 2009 02:41 pmYou know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
1. First name:
Lara. None calls me anything else.
2. Age:
25 until January 16th, 2010. Yes. I'm a grown up now.
3. Location:
An island in South Jersey. Were I to tell you which one, you'd be able to find me veeerrrryyyy easily. I live in one of many tourist towns with a beach at the end of my block. I am close to Philadelphia. There is no public transportation here in the winter and the closest city is Atlantic City. It's very flat here and there are marshes and highways and... the ocean... power plants... pine trees... and that's about it, really.
4. Occupation:
Hm. Well... I'm a landlord. I rent my houses to tourists in the summer and to locals during the winter. Right now I'm working very part time at a restaurant as a hostess, and hopefully I'll be able to keep this job while I'm in school, too.
5. Partner:
Partner, partner, partner... what a lovely word! I have a boyfriend - is he my partner? I don't know - maybe he is. We don't live together, so initially I'd say no, but, then again - we do kind of do everything either together or with each other in mind. So - perhaps yes. We met (as grownups) at work about two years ago and we've been together about a year or so. We met tons of times as kids, because he is a friend of my cousin and my aunt used to babysit him, but the last time we saw each other before I moved here was when I was thirteen and he was eleven so... I'm not sure that counts. We have some things in common and some things not - he's crazy for football, goes surfing, skateboards, likes Dave Matthews, and watches 24. I do none of these things. But he also likes sci-fi and fantasy, karaoke, drinking beer, playing guitar, Radiohead, and watching anime. And I like to have lots of time to myself, so... it works out well.

I have a younger sister who doesn't like me very much and I don't talk to often.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
I am going to Disney World for Christmas.
I am starting school in January
I am going to China in April
I am moving to Philadelphia in July
I am starting school full time with a real major in August
10. Parents:
My dad is a spy/mad scientist who is very difficult to find and likes to procreate - his girlfriend is pregnant with her third, apparently. He's also married and his oldest child is forty years old. He's pretty much a super genius so I like to think I get my intelligence and affinity for languages from him. My mom was a professional pianist before she had me and my sister so I like to think I get my musical ability from her. Neither of my parents are American, although my dad is now a US citizen (my mom never was) and English is neither of their first languages. My dad is still living - my mom is not.
11. Who are some of your closest friends:
My boyfriend is very nearly my best friend. I don't have that many friends and I think he is my favorite :P I have a very good friend named Matt, who I've known my entire life and who I followed to Philadelphia when he went to college. He now lives in upstate New York - I did not follow him there. We try to get together when we can, which isn't all that often unfortunately. I had a best friend - we had a major falling out several years ago and I haven't seen or spoken to him since. His name is Daniel. I write about him sometimes. I miss him very much.
