Day 17 - A song you hear often on the radio

So, I heard this song all the time on the radio before I left, and then when I came back, they still play it all the time. Fortunately, I still like it.

Also they're playing the Electric Factory soon. But their show is sold out :(

And yes that is a banjo! AND a mandolin!

yeah I figured you'd like this considering how bluegrass-y it sounds :)

I dunno if these guys are getting as much air time everywhere else as they are here, or if my preferred local radio station just likes them, but yeah, I hear this several times a day if I've got the radio on for a while. None of their other songs are in rotation (in the US, although I'm pretty sure they've had more than one chart topper in the UK) but yes, they are just as good :P

So I just realized why I'm listening to a lot less new music than when I was in HS. When I was in HS, the local public radio station besides news, played a lot more than just jazz. It played a lot of world beat and indie stuff, and well a bunch of other stuff. Some was locally produced. They had a very good locally produced B sides show for example. But one syndicated one they had that I really like, because they did play a lot of new stuff, was "World Cafe" hosted by David Dye. And well, I listened to it online a bit when I went off to college, but since then, I haven't really. I bring this up because "World Cafe" is produced by WXPN(which i'm guessing you know), and apparently on Monday, they re-ran a Mumford and Sons (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123497198) live performance. Which would make sense if they are performing there soon. So yeah, what am I doing now? listening to that performance.

I really should start listening to that online regularly again. It was always a good show.

Any other totally awesome Bluegrass-y bands I should know about?

aw, World Cafe! That's actually a place - kinda like a dinner theatre. You can go have lunch at World Cafe and see a live performance at the same time. And then you can also go watch the radio shows being aired too. I saw a neo-burlesque show at World Cafe once :)

Dunno about any other bluegrass bands though. If I think of any I'll let you know though.

OH, that explains why he says "live at the world cafe" when introducing live guests, rather than "on" like one would expect for being "on" a radio show. It always sounded a little odd to me, but never thought there might actually be a "World Cafe".
