House Stuff: Full Speed Ahead
May. 13th, 2011 11:33 amTaking a trip to Ikea today (Bevan has never been there!)
The plan is not to like buy the entire store... Just to enjoy checking out all the sample rooms and light galleries and stuff, and buy a FEW specific things. Possibly bedroom furniture? Cause we don't have any... Also deciding just what to do with the bedroom walls. We like the two-tone look in the living room/ dining room area so much that we want that in the bedroom too. However, to replicate that would mean putting a chair rail in the bedroom too. This is super easy, but would that be kinda weird in a bedroom? Cause we could just paint the two different colors above and below where a rail WOULD be... Not sure yet.
And also, I'm not convinced bedroom furniture from Ikea is a good idea. Ikea is good for stuff that has a specific purpose, like electronics storage or whatever, but bedroom furniture we should be able to find second hand... Right? I mean I like having nice stuff, and I like picking out exactly what I want, but it doesnt have to be brand new - I just have to like it! And I'd prefer not to spend money I don't have to. Or make anyone else feel like they have to spend money they don't have to.
I'll get some pics up eventually - we're kinda having a "house blitz"'this weekend and M has some friends coming to paint with us so we can be done with this for once and for all, so, I def have pics to show. I've just been super busy and focused and... I dunno. I'll get to the pictures eventually. Even if "eventually" means like in June... after I'm home from the hospital and bored out of my mind because I can't do anything.
I do like to buy things tho... for example A PHONE THATS SMARTER THAN I AM. Totally excited about that one! I had to wait until I was done with my semester to buy the phone because, well... I mean I know I couldn't resist playing with it all through class, and that just makes a bad impression on teachers. I fuck up enough as it is, I don't need to give anyone the idea that I'm doing it on purpose. But now I have the ability to hold the internet in my hand... AWESOME.

Date: 2011-05-13 04:04 pm (UTC)Woohoo! Smart phone! Mobile internet! Hehehe totally undersand the not wanting to get distracted. (I.e. what I'm not doing right now :)
So now I'm waiting on new pictures from both you AND Ivy.
Re: furnature - I would think you could find some decent bedroom sets on craigslist. Although it probably won't come in convienent easy to haul flat packs. Dude, I was like totally shocked the first time I went to an IKEA. Never seen anything like it. However now that I have been to Denmark it makes a little more sense, although the copenhagen airport still causes flashbacks of the store.
When I rented a room for PlansBig, there was essentially a chair rain in the bedroom. A thin like 3/4 inch wide pine colored strip that had fancy texturing on it. Below was a dark sky ble color, above was a whiteish color. But - I do think it could work without the rail too. I've seen a lot of garages/shops painted that way. Or maybe paint a "faux" chair rail. Like do a really dark or really light (depending on the rest of the room color) stripe around the room separating the two coordinating colors.
Again, can't wait for the pix! :)
