Ten Things I Love
Apr. 2nd, 2012 06:54 pm1. Soft and fuzzy things - I think I have explained this before, about how I like to touch and pet soft things, especially things in my bed or things I'm wearing. One time I even got away with taking my favorite chenille blanket to the movie theatre with me!
2. Control - I am a control freak. I know I've admitted to this before, but I don't know how well I've ever been able to explain what a RUSH it is to know something is ENTIRELY under my control.
3. The Hunger Games movie - go see it if you haven't! For some reason I thought it was about werewolves and vampire kids who fight each other battle royale style. It's not, and I'm not sure where I got that idea. Now I want to read the books.
4. My garden - my boyfriend buried all these things in the garden last fall. He ordered them online, and these mesh bags of dirt and bulbs showed up on our front porch. Theyre turning into really pretty flowers. First there were little bunches of snowdrops, and then these little blue ball thingies, and then suddenly all these daffodils started blooming, they're all different sizes and colors and different ones open up every couple days. The first ones are all dead, but new and different ones keep appearing, like white and yellow frilly ones and mini star shaped bunches and white and orange ones... it's really cool. also there are all these tulip bunches, but only two deep purple ones have bloomed so far. There are a few blue... hydrangeas, I think? And the daylillies are sprouting leaves, and these viny blue little things started growing... and the pansies from last fall survived the winter (that we didn't have) and are now like... pansy bushes! He recently came home with things he said were going to grow into really tall big white and purple flowers (but they look like potatoes) and a bag of yellow and pink lillies to plant, and some things that are going to be deep blue irises (like van gogh!) and he put fresh mulch down, so now it looks very neat and organized and smells like spring and dirt.
We have a courtyard too, and he said he can try to make me a container garden out there but he doesn't know that much about growing things in pots. I kind of thought he was doing all this because he liked to, like as a hobby or something, and while I think he DOES like taking responsibility for a yard that's OURS that he can keep nice and take pride in, he says he did all this for me, because he thinks I like plants.
I guess I DO like plants, being that I talk about the garden all the time! I used to have a plant in my house in NJ, and I think I did talk about stuff my plant would to often enough. He also thinks that eventually maybe I can do things to take care of the garden too, and although it's something I really have no idea how to do, I really don't see why not. So it will be really cool to see all the things growing this summer.
5. Learning other languages - I am taking Intro French I and II this summer, because I need 3 classes but only one in my major is offered. I partly chose it because I suspect I might already know a good portion of what would be covered in an intro class, but also because it seemed like the most enjoyable of all my choices. I really loved my Chinese class my first semester back, and I'm sad I can't really take another one. However, my house is about to be occupied by two fluent Mandarin speakers, so I guess that will have to do :) I also tried to learn some Korean when I first moved to Philadelpia, because my neighborhood was ver close to Korea Town, and I remember a good deal of it when I have a reason to. It was pretty handy when me and Bevan were IN Korea, and it was a source of amusement when I shared a room with a Korean girl, and now Bevan's bosses are Korean and he frequently asks me for random phrases to use to startle his coworkers ala "wait, why do you even KNOW that word?" He always says his girlfriend taught it to him, which I guess is why a few of his coworkers thought I was Asian :)
6. Non-chocolate candy - I don't really enjoy the taste of chocolate. I don't hate it, but it certainly isn't delicious to me. I DO enjoy sugar though! I love it, but I don't really crave it more than just a passing thought. I don't eat candy much right now because I gained so much weight and I'm not really able to exercise, so while I think I look ok (I guess) I don't want to become so heavy my boyfriend can't lift me.
7. Travel - I think I've already explained about this one enough
8. Having good friends - my best friend recently moved back to Philadelphia after having talked about doing so for the past year. It's really great having him around. There are people I know from school or from Bevan's work who I like, but it's not the same as being around someone who I've known for most of my life and have such a history with, and who isn't around just because it's convenient but because we actually do value our friendship. My room mate is also a great friend. We've known each other for a long time but not that well, and since we've been living together we've had some deep and interesting discussions. He's a good person and good to have around and he and Bevan have gotten to be good friends too. I think he keeps Bevan out of trouble cause he's always dragging him into some really geeky activity along with his other friends:)
9. Personal space - I love it. So if you take it from me by invading it or disregarding it, I get really upset.
